Hello! I love to treat my clients and myself to natural and organic products, I make a lot of my own treatment products and I would love to share a few of my recipes with you. With these salt scrubs and sugar scrubs you will revive dry, dull skin as well as exfoliating and nourishing your skin all at the same time.
A lot of people ask me what is the difference between a salt scrub and a sugar scrub.
Lets start with the salt scrub, the main purpose of a salt scrub is to physically buff away dead skin cells that are making your skin look dull, uneven and patchy. Regularly getting rid of dead skin also promotes faster skin cell turnover, revealing a younger, clearer, brighter complexion waiting underneath.
Salt scrubs have an added bonus in the fact that salt helps to pull toxins away from the body and ease inflammation. This is why salt scrubs are so beloved by those who experience muscle soreness from athletic activities and those who are trying to detoxify. Salt scrubs are good for areas of the body that the skin is dryer such as the feet, hands, elbows, and legs. If you’re looking for an amazing spa treatment that eliminates dead skin while restoring and toning your skin this is it.
While you might be tempted to use table salt, it doesn’t contain minerals like more natural forms of salt do, so it’s not nearly as beneficial and I myself use Sea Salt or Celtic Sea Salt, (available at Walmart's, Shaw's if not in store online as well as Amazon)
You can use a salt scrub 2 or 3 times a week
A sugar scrub works by physically and manually exfoliating the skin, sugar scrubs are made from tiny granules that do the heavy lifting, buffing away dead skin and encouraging cell turnover without leaving your skin raw or red, Sugar scrubs are less abrasive on the skin and can be used on the face. Unrefined cane sugar also contains the nutrients calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium, which feed and replenishes your skin. Unrefined sugar is more abrasive than table sugar, so you should never use it on your face unless processed to the texture of table sugar, otherwise unrefined sugar should only be used on your body.
Exfoliating your body with a sugar scrub is totally safe and has tons of healing properties. The benefits of exfoliating your body include breaking down and removing dead skin cells from the top layers of the skin to reveal healthy skin cells beneath., hydrating and moisturizing healthy cells, leaving you with smoother skin and also stimulates and increases blood circulation for a healthy glow.
Lips will really benefit from the benefits a sugar scrub can offer. To heal and soften your lips, exfoliate with a sugar scrub once a week, but be gentle, If your lips start feeling raw, you should stop immediately as you are probably over-exfoliating. (take off scrub with tissue or cotton pads)
Sugar scrubs have one significant advantage over salt scrubs, and that’s they don’t sting. We’ve all accidentally used a salt scrub on freshly shaved or waxed legs or on a sunburn, only to feel that familiar sting. This is why those who shave tend to reach for sugar scrubs. Sugar scrubs are recommended for people with sensitive skin.
It is recommend exfoliating your body two or three times a week.
